Event Programme Synopsis for Gerhana Skacinta
Live at Esplanade Annexe Studio, Singapore
Global Entertainment Production is proud to present Gerhana Skacinta live at the Esplanade Annexe Studio in Singapore on 8 Sep 2017, Fri, 7pm. The ska band from Malaysia is skanking its way here for a long-awaited performance, to celebrate its 18th anniversary.
Gerhana Skacinta has a unique and remarkable aptitude for the musical styles of ska, rocksteady, reggae and dub. The words “gerhana” (which means “eclipse”), “ska” and “cinta” (which means “love”) were put together to form the band’s name. Although based in a country far from the more famous centres of ska culture, the band’s music is not a fusion of the Caribbean, Southeast Asian or West Indie genres. Instead, Gerhana Skacinta is loved for its very own pure and traditional take on ska music.
The band has built a fanbase over time, through live performances and sales of its recorded materials. It released four full-length albums between 2002 and 2008, with over 20,000 copies of its second album sold in 2004. To date, Gerhana Skacinta has performed in several festivals and gigs around Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, winning over massive crowds, all dancing to its music.
The opening act for this performance is Singapore’s THE MANIACS, a well-recognised and self-sustaining Skin Head band from the Lion City’s underground scene, which has been around since 1994.
This showcase gives a wider audience and the general public an opportunity to better understand and appreciate the skinhead and the punk subculture.
