Still Ill Records [Philippines] Drops 2 New Bangers to Close Out the Year of 2022

The Philippines came out of the pandemic hard as nails at the end of 2022 with tons of shows and releases. Hardcore mainstays, Still Ill Records, not only were busy putting on shows (as they are with 2023 as well – they’re putting No Pressure/Regulate, One Step Closer and Roll Call within the first two months of this year) but also some fresh new music. Two of them are what the label is sharing with us today.

“Ask anyone how their 2022 went, and they’ll give you different responses. But Still Ill Records, a local label based in Manila, closed the year with one successful hosting of Kruelty, and two releases to solidify their catalog for 2022.

The first release is the Pilipinas Hardcore Vol 3, a regular compilation of Philippine hardcore bands via a 7” record. The third installment of the series, which was slightly delayed by the pandemic, has seven tracks of different hardcore subgenres, starting off with Hëx’s opening track Disgust, which has influences of D-beat and sludge. Next is the track Distress from Constriction which is heavily inspired by mid-2000s metallic hardcore, and Sandy Good’s We Are All Children to wrap up side A. Side B goes hard with Warcrimes’ Forever, Hangal’s Human=Cancer and Salot’s Messiah Complex and Noxious Gruel.

Second is Tondo’s very own Repetition, which takes cues from old Turnstile and Crown of Thornz. A personal favorite is the song ‘Escape’ which puts into a song things I like such as sick ass two-step parts, heavy mosh parts and lyrics that describe how we all are getting fed up with society.”
