After the tragic incident of losing their guitarist due to heart complications, Malaysian ska punk band JOHNY COMES LATELY is now back, with a solid new line up, and with a brand new album, ‘Di Simpang Tiga’.
“It has been a tough journey to complete the album, especially when you lose someone so dearly and had a big influence on the band’s sound and direction. We were in the midst of completing the songwriting process when we were hit with such bad news, and it completely left abig crack in us even to the point of disbanding JCL. It took a while for us to recuperate, find new solid band members, relearn and finding chemistry to play and write together again and we are forever grateful for it. The entire journey of us finding our way back and making hard decisions during crea;on of the album resulted in us naming the album “Di Simpang Tiga” (At The Crossroads).”
The new 10 track album, released under Nyaring Records, will includes the single “Kemenangan Sebenar” which features Hyke Nasir from local punk rock outfit, Hacktick!. The single, a catchy punk rock tune, with elements of J-Rock combined with hardcore influences, promotes positivity, self improvements and the never give up mindset to reach what we all aim to achieve in life, “Kemenangan Sebenar” (True Victory). The official music video, directed by Harubiru Films, also featured talented local aspiring actors such as Mia Sara Shauki and Azzal. The video was produced in a playful 90’s Tokukatsu/Super Sentai fighting themed video and was shot in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor was received by a great response from the band’s solid fanbase.
The band aims to support their new album launch with a full nationwide tour including Sabah and Sarawak with the goal to garner new fans from the Malaysian independent scene particularly loyal ska punk music fans. The tour will be held at local arts and music venues in hope of supporting local businesses and active community members that have helped pushed local talents and artists. Tour details will be posted out soon on the band’s social media mediums.
After almost 5 years of heavy anticipation for new material, Johny Comes Lately is finally back on track to cater to their loyal fans their most creative album that they have ever produced so far. The band promises to produce an exciting new album that proves that the band is still going strong with their Hard Hittin’, Heavy Beating’ sounds of maximum rock n’ roll.
