For those of you who follow Asian hardcore punk – especially the South East Asian scene – there is no way you have not heard of the genius artist from Malaysia – Fahmi Reza. His art and philosophy fully encapsulate what punk rock is all about – challenging the system over and over, not trusting the narratives that mass media throws out there, questioning social norms especially when those norms are not keeping up with the times, taking your thoughts and ideas and using whatever approach (DIY) to spreading those ideas. The list goes on and on…in this great Vice interview done with him, he talks about how the authorities have it out for him and his art. Here in Hong Kong, we are also dealing with similar things, and thus watching his experiences and listening to him talk certainly speaks to us here greatly.
