The Kominas from USA featuring Asian American members release new album

Probably one of the most punk rock bands out there right now is this band from USA called The Kominas that feature four Asian Americans who use their music, lyrics and general platform to challenge the world at large. It could be challenging what stereotypically passes for “punk rock” because upon first listen they sound more like an indie-rock/garage rock type of band in tone and aesthetic. But if you look closer at their lyrics and ESPECIALLY read interviews where they explain what they’re all about – there is no better word to describe them then “punk” simply for the fact that they are directly confronting ideas and thoughts sparking controversy with their mere existence. How many of today’s bands that are stereotypically deemed as “punk” are actually causing controversy and debate?
