Prog Metal Collide With Traditional Vietnamese Instruments – Dzung Releases Album [Vietnam]

Dzung, a well-known guitarist of progressive metal band Hạc San, has released an 11 track instrumental album inspired by Vietnamese traditional folk music. The album features 20 artists from Vietnam including legendary Vietnamese zither artist Hải Phượng, Cuong Nhoc (drummer), Yellow Star Big Band (brass), and the winner of Guitar Idol 2009 Jack Thammarat from Thailand.

The title ‘Dzanca’ is the combination of Dân-ca (Vietnamese folk songs) and his name ‘Dzung’. The music is a mixture of Progressive metal & World music with Vietnamese traditional instruments (zither, mono cord, bamboo flute).

‘Dzanca’ took Dzung 3 years to compose, arrange and record with great support from Saigon Root Music and 24BEAT studio during quarantine in Saigon, Vietnam. After 6 months of working hard, ‘Dzanca’ was released on CD, cassette, vinyl, and digital formats and hit the #1 position on the Itunes Vietnam chart for 4 days straight.

“I want to show the beauty of Vietnamese music and culture through my guitar to more people in the world” – Dzung.
