Straight Edge Hardcore Band FIGURE OUT Drop Brand New EP [Philippines]

Yo…what a step up from all their previous releases too. Check out Filipino straight edge hardcore band FIGURE OUT on their brand stomping mad EP entitled ‘Through the Tides’.

Vocalist, Jhona, added, “Figure Out, with the addition of new members, evolved into more than just a groovy hardcore band. Given hardcore’s long history, we tried incorporating different sounds while making it sound cohesive.

Lyrically we wanted to amplify concerns of the masses and victims of injustice (Class War, Retributor), sing about the importance of practicing theory (Praxis), respect for one’s autonomy when it comes to changing themselves (Inside Out), the need to study history despite being uncomfortable with it (Test Of Time), and the need to do something other than just being straight edge (Slice Through).

More than the music, the EP was a combined effort of a lot of our friends across the globe, from Anthony Burke mixing and mastering it, and the guest vocals from Kyo of Monument X (TH), Riz of Eskrima (CA), Patrick Flynn (US), and artwork by Frelan of Defy (ID), a testament to the hardcore’s global connection. The EP sums up the history of hardcore, a subculture that endures “Through the Tides.””

“Fr3lan did the design. We’ve been friends since the first CONCRETE JUNGLE FEST in 2024, and we’re like, let’s have him do the art since he did cool pieces, and we love DEFY, and he showed great interest in Figure Out when we played the Hellbound/NBE/Defy in Manila. We want someone who understands and likes the band. For the design, we know he is a very talented person, which is why we let him interpret the songs, and it came out great!
