Post-Hardcore band BRICKCITY have released a music video for the track ‘Salt and Pepper’, offering a sophisticated visual departure from the band’s signature intensity. Directed by fashion filmmaker MV Isip and Denzel Joaquino, the video serves as both a reintroduction to the band and a heartfelt tribute to their previous record.
Formed in 2009, Brickcity is a five-piece independent act known for their emotionally charged live performances and deep roots in the underground scene. “Salt and Pepper” is an evocative love song, narrated from the unique perspective of a fish being consumed as a meal—a metaphor for deep, transformative romance that is mirrored in the video.
The video stars creative duo Cenon Norial III and Mav Bernardo as two lovers preparing for dinner. It also features set design by Justine Arcega-Bumanlag and styling by thrift enthusiast Shaira Luna, while rope artist Mistress Joyen adds an unconventional touch to the production.
Set in an ornate vintage home, the music video contrasts the song’s heavy guitars and powerful screams with its delicate and intimate visuals.
From Director MV Isip:
“We were the ones who reached out to Brickcity, actually! We wanted to make a music video and thought they were the perfect fit since they had just released We The Forgettables and had always had strong art direction as a band, most evident in their last music video trilogy. They gladly sent us the album and gave us free rein to choose which song.
We felt drawn to the opening track, ‘Salt and Pepper,’ since it had very evocative lyrics and a uniquely strong structure. Based on the lyrics, we felt that it was a song about loving someone so much that you’re willing to give them all that you can. Denzel thought of the ending, and we built the narrative from there.
We sat down with Jacques earlier this year, and he validated that the song is really a love song told from the perspective of fish being consumed as a meal. This aligned with our vision of intimate and eerie visuals set in an ornate vintage home. We spent a couple of months in pre-production and shot the music video in an ancestral home in Manila back in June.”
We will ALWAYS stop whatever we’re doing to support artists who want to continue...
