Established as one of metals most exciting up and coming acts, Japan-based metalcore outfit PROMPTS unleash pure mania on their latest single “Deceiver”, a concoction of distorted soundscapes, pummelling moments, and fleeting ethereal reprieve – streaming everywhere now via Greyscale Records. The band will celebrate the release tomorrow, joining Parkway Drive as main support live in Tokyo.
“Deceiver” explores the internal conflict between staying true to yourself and conforming to society’s idea of what’s ‘normal’. “What’s considered the ‘right answer’ in Japan isn’t always the same in Korea,” the band explains, whose members hail from both countries. “And these ideas of ‘normal’ change depending on the country or region. It can be confusing for a lot of people. But honestly, there’s no universal definition of what’s truly ‘right’, that’s why we believe it’s not worth letting all that noise shape who you are.”
Dedicated to redefining genre boundaries, Prompts have built a reputation for masterfully fusing elements of nü-metal, mathcore, djent and deathcore, crafting a sound that is entirely unique to them, feeling both experimental and refined. “Deceiver” is Prompts second release of the year, following “Stranger” featuring Landon Tewers of The Plot In You. The collaborative single was a testament to years of friendship built through touring, culminating in a track that felt defining. The single was coined one of Metal Hammer’s Tracks Of The Week on release, praised as “an absolute rager, covering the extensive gap between metalcore’s most vicious elements and its inherent tendencies towards anthemic sing-alongs,” and drew comparisons to UK legends Architects.
Last year’s releases “Edgerunner” and “Sun Eater” firmly placed Prompts on the global radar, marking their first singles under the Greyscale Records banner. Featuring members from both Japan and South Korea, the band’s dual heritage continues to shape their distinctive sound – a collision of contrasting influences and cultures.
Since forming in 2012, Prompts have established themselves as a force within Japan’s heavy scene, sharing stages with Kublai Khan, Crystal Lake, The Plot In You, Crossfaith, and Stray From The Path, as well as performing at Pulp Summer Slam alongside Parkway Drive, The Story So Far, and La Dispute. The band kicked off 2024 with their debut Australian tour alongside The Gloom In The Corner and HEAVENSGATE, and returned last October supporting Diamond Construct across the country.
“Deceiver” is available everywhere now via Greyscale Records.
