The Northern Negros Natural Park (NNNP), the largest watershed in the Province provides water sources for seventeen municipalities and cities. It is also home to critically endangered species of flora and fauna unique to our island.

This ecosystem is at risk from the projects, programs, and activities pushed forward by private companies, as well as organizations, and even politicians. Apparently, our government and its policies turned a blind eye to the obvious destruction of this protected area.

On October 8, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announced that the illegal structures inside the NNNP would be ‘legalized.’ This is a clear violation of the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) Act as they were given the unwarranted benefits, preference, and benefits and by failing to prosecute them accordingly.

We urge the DENR to refrain from legalizing the illegal structures inside the NNNP and hold these environmental offenders accountable as it is their sworn oath to safeguard and protect our environment.
