Goddamn…the entire Philippines hardcore scene has no doubt levelled the fuck up. Check this brand new split released on STILL ILL RECORDS (this label is consistent AF) featuring two highly active Filipino hardcore bands – they heavy as nails WARG and the Strife/Judge/Buried Alive inspired PAST FORWARD. Past Forward’s intro is so pit-inducing that we had to move our furniture out of the way here while writing this piece up. And Warg’s heavy beatdown fury is not to be fucked with – so fucking heavy.
Both bands were kind enough to send in some info about their new tracks.
First up, WARG unravel their lyrical content:
“The tracks are about feeling really mad at leaders who lie and cheat to get ahead, leaving regular folk feeling robbed and hopeless. It says we should stand up to unfairness and fight for a better future, not just stay angry inside. The words in the song also show that we shouldn’t let bad people get away with hurting others they need to face the consequences. Basically, it’s a call for everyone to unite, be brave, and not let dishonesty control us.”
GODDAMN…when you see a beatdown show and how everyone is hiding on the sides of the venue holding on to walls for dear life, the anger makes so much more sense when THIS is what the songs are about!
Past Forward chime in with their side of the split:
“Our tracks were written right after we finished our second EP ‘Streetwise’. ‘Rat’ is all about being aware of who you trust, it’s a reminder that even the closest of people can rat you out for their own personal gain. ‘Violent Healing’ tackles the issue of violence against women and how it ruins people, a dark topic that the band have not explored before but we think needs to be addressed. On a lighter note, ‘Brothers Keepers’ is kind of an appreciation song for our straight edge friends in the scene.”
