Up-and-coming Singaporean band VERDANT is a sonic unison of Progressive Metal, Hardcore and Emo, inspired by the likes of Intervals, A Day To Remember and Saosin.
VERDANT’s debut single, SENESCENT, is an emotionally intense expression brought forth by five individuals channeling their feelings of yearning and anxiety – catharsis by way of a catchy Post-Hardcore tune, peppered with moments of musical finesse.
On the story that SENESCENT tells, the band had this to say:
“Senescent is a cautionary tale that explores the changes that people undergo from childhood to adulthood, becoming more callous and stubborn, losing the innocence, confidence, and curiosity that children have. When we were young, we all possessed an imagination so beautiful, but so many of us lose it as we grow up and grow older.”
Formed in 2018, National University of Singapore students Joshua Arthur (Vocals), Junior Lim (Bass), and Erjill Sison (Guitar) met and bonded over a mutual love for heavy, alternative music.
Each of them having had prior experiences with music, the trio decided to kickstart a project to satiate their hunger for creating their own brand of music. Roping in musically like-minded university friends, Brandon Lim (Drums, Cinnamon Persimmon) and Marc Lee (Guitar, ex-The Great White Lark), the band’s lineup was set and ready to go. Taking the name Verdant, meaning a lush green, the band sought to challenge the idea of the grass being greener on the other side.
A collaboration of five musical storytellers, Verdant’s music is a retelling of a day’s events in our lives that may have passed us by – fleeting and taken for granted, yet shaking us to the core.
