Good morning Asia! First order of business is just how fucking stoked we are to hear this debut EP released by our fellow South Asian punk rock brothers and sisters out there in the US! The band is called Awaaz Do and they’ve released a 5 track EP entitled Kite Fight. The EP even includes covers of arguably a couple of the most popular Bollywood songs ever in the history of Bollywood’s billions of movies – Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Choli Ke Picche. Yo for real – to hear it in a punk rock form, makes this song so much more bearable hahahahaha…but the real gems are the original tracks of the band. You have to get this record…it’s just great to hear a different take (and a different face) to the age-old punk rock look and sound. When she sings in Hindi you can even hear the influence of Western music/rock on her vocal delivery and tone – sounds so cool!
Yo…wish this was sent to us last year! Check out this killer all-female international compilation of females killing it across the planet in genres under the “hardcore” or “metal”...
