BB BOMB are a Taipei-based Taiwanese band, known as a classic Taiwanese punk band, formed in 2003, when all-female punk bands were a rarity, they originated from Tunghai University (Taichung) art department. After multiple lineup changes, they continue to be driven by singer/guitarist Hsu Pei Hsing (FuFu) the only original member and it’s her female perspective and tight, direct, & fast song structures that define the bands charater. Hsu states the “melodies and vocals are reflect the experience of Taiwanese women”. BB Bomb were Influenced by all-female Japanese bands THUG MURDER and SOFTBALL, and Taiwanese all female 90’s act LADYBUG.
Hsu has DIY in blood and runs her own record label J.D.B.G, is a gig promoter and an illustrator, who draws stories about the band and cats and has released several comic books. Drummer, Jiangbow, is a professional drummer. Bassist, Iven also plays in two other bands. The album was recorded at LM Studio by Ippei Suda in in Osaka, Japan, and Rebel Sound Studio by Slater C in Taipei. Mastered by Ippei Suda (Otoboke Beaver, Afrirampo, Shonen Knife, Boredoms, and more).
BB Bomb’s first ever show outside Asia was at Sled Island in Calgary, Canada at the Otoboke Beaver curated festival.
In the band’s own words…
“After bringing in a new drummer, we immediately started creating. He wasn’t into this style of music before, but it’s precisely this difference that brought some great ideas and a unique blend. The style of this album is different from the last one, with more short and powerful songs. The lyrics also cover different themes, focusing more on small moments in life. There’s less over-polishing in the arrangements, and we’ve tried to create in a way that’s different from before. This also symbolizes that we’re about to enter a new phase.”
“Because the previous album took 17 years to release, for this practice songs album, I wanted to try creating a song in a very short time. It’s like a homework assignment and practice for myself. I wanted to create something different from the last album, so there are more songs with shouting, I’ve always preferred songs with shouting, almost like transitioning from a young girl to an angry middle-aged woman.”
