GEMPITA (from Malay gempita, from Sanskrit कम्पित (kampita, “shaking; trembling”) is a newly formed quartet from Dengkil, Malaysia, blending blackgaze, skramz, and atmospheric ambience into a raw and emotive sonic experience. Their sound draws from the haunting beauty of regional contemporaries suchs Aillis and Avhath (Indonesia), alongside the intensity of Show Me a Dinosaur (Russia) and Oathbreaker (Belgium), merging tremolo guitar lines, sweeping atmospheres, and impassioned screams.
The name “GEMPITA”, meaning “thunderous” in Malay, reflects the band’s mission to project intense emotionally-charged sound. With the debut demo entitled “Batil Harkatnya : Demo Dalam Dua Fragmen” GEMPITA aims to carve a unique path in the regional DIY music scene, offering a sound that is both intimate and explosive, rooted in sincerity and catharsis.
In addition to the presence digital release, GEMPITA will soon be releasing a limited physical demo, providing a tangible experience of the ever-evolving sound. This demo will serve as a glimpse into the GEMPITA’s vision for future full-length releases, capturing the intensity and rawness that soon will be manifested at live performances.
