Spanning a career that has now lasted over a decade, Singapore-based post-hardcore five-piece Caracal have returned with their ravening new single ‘Mouth Of Madness’ – recorded, mixed, and mastered by band member Martin Kong at Snakeweed Studios, Singapore.
Furiously charged by frantic drums and dissonant guitars, ‘Mouth Of Madness’ evokes musical techniques comparable to those of At The Drive-In and The Dillinger Escape Plan. The intensified, aggressive vocals of Rachel Lu coat the song in Caracal’s signature nature of anger and brutality. This ferocious momentum is maintained throughout the track with the band’s complexity and skill on display, before a chaotic build-up and release leads to an abrupt ending.
Caracal talks about the meaning behind ‘Mouth Of Madness’:
“Sonically, we wanted to evoke the sinister archetype of the televangelist or preacher, while at the same time capturing the rage of those who have had enough of the hypocrisy. Fittingly, our home of Singapore is experiencing a kind of morality crisis right now – and “Mouth of Madness” is our reaction to that. We have a deep respect for religion, but when people use it as an agenda to push down or take power away from others, that’s when it crosses a line for us.”
The band have scoured the globe, touring through the USA, Japan, Canada, China, Indonesia and Malaysia, supporting such heavyweights as The Used, Underoath, Funeral For A Friend and Anberlin. They’ve also performed at international festivals Summer Sonic (JAP), Spring Scream(TAI), JAKCLOTH (IND), Threadfest (PHI) and MIDI Music Festival (CHI).
The band has not only dropped this new single, but have also announced dates in Australia as well:
