India/Pakistan powerviolence act Atif X Aslam have released their debut EP (originally released in 2014) for free download further below.
For those unfamiliar, Atif Aslam is a famous South Asian pop singer (we actually think he’s amazing!).
The powerviolence band however, has nothing to do with Atif (imagine if he was a secret member!). The band is an internet project featuring a member of the amazing, but now defunct, Bombay hardcore band Death By Fungi – Vrishank Menon, and the vocalist of Pakistan based grindcore band Multinational Corporations – Hassan Amin. While Hassan is giving his punk and grindcore bands a break, he’s been heading up a powerful new underground hip hop movement which recently got a write up in VICE: https://www.vice.com/en_in/article/43p3bm/at-rhymistan-meet-the-kids-behind-pakistans-burgeoning-hip-hop-scene
The band is self described as:
“Cross-border urdu/hindi powerviolence/hardcore punk from a Pakistani bharwa and an Indian chutiya” – these two bharwas and chutiyas outdid themselves on this STELLAR harami release from a few years back. Both these madarchod’s came together to create some abrasive music from South Asia. If you have been a fan of False Flag‘s recent output – these jams are 100% your cup of chai.
Vrishank had this to say about this final release:
“A few years ago, Hassan and I started an internet punk band, kind of a cross border powerviolence/punk project and we did it anonymously because we wanted it to be like Kali X Gula [Nepal based grindcore band who enjoys playing on Bollywood names, tropes and samples].
A few days ago we agreed we weren’t gonna continue and the second EP that was recorded for this won’t be released so we are coming out of “anonymity”. So here it is, the record I played drums and guitar in – the notorious Atif X Aslam.
For fans of: Spazz, Charles Bronson, Infest, RKL, anything fast really.”
Go blast this shit! Hopefully the band may change their mind in the near future to actually release that second EP someday!
Check out a brand new Taiwanese hardcore band called GUNPOINT, who’ve just dropped their debut demo ‘Don’t Ever Stop Moving’. The band were kind enough to send us some...
