Gerri Duenas aka “Gerri Bagets” passed away over the weekend after suffering from a brain stroke. Gerri is the guitarist of influential Filipino hardcore crossover group Intoxication of Violence during the mid 80’s, and was the current axeman of Brutal Punishment.

Here’s a heartfelt message from the vocalist of his band Fin Santos:

I received a phone call this morning from my friend Daniel Angelo Jesalva and my heart was tremendously broken when i heard the very sad news.

Today the Philippine underground hardcore/punk/metal scene suffered a great loss in the passing of Ricardo Gerri DueÑas a truly dedicated artist/painter, friend, my former band mate and a dad. Up to this moment I’m at a loss for words as I recollect my thoughts from day one when I was asked by Gerri and Rady to join one of the baddest hardcore bands that has ever existed on the face of this earth “Intoxication Of Violence.” I’m greatly honored, humbled and greatful to be a part of the I.O.V. legacy.

Thank you for the life that you shared with me and the music and arts that you shared with others. You will be terribly missed brother. If only I could twist the hands of the Almighty God…but his ways are not ours and His ways are better even if we don’t understand Him.

Thank you for your prayers and support. My sincerest condolences to his family, friends and relatives. God bless you all.

Fin Santos”

A couple weeks ago we announced the passing of a highly influential punk rock veteran of the Chinese punk rock scene – Lei Jun – and today we have to sadly announce the passing of another great Asian member of the punk/hardcore fraternity.

May these amazing souls rest in peace up in heaven and be looking down at us with smiles and a joyful gaze.

RIP Gerri.
