Singaporean pop punk band THE STATE OF MIND release new EP ‘Get Over It’.
Originally formed in 2022, their debut EP Let It Out introduced their dynamic blend of emo sensibility and power-pop urgency, wrapped in the charisma of a live band pushing punk boundaries. The band is stepping into its own identity with Get Over It, a four-track EP that blends catchy hooks, emotive lyrics, and a distinct layer of synthesizers — a nod to pop punk’s genre-bending turn in the early 2000s. Drawing influence from scene staples like The Get Up Kids, Motion City Soundtrack, Weezer, and Four Year Strong, Get Over It delivers nostalgia with a fresh twist.
The EP opens with its title track, “Get Over It”, a powerful anthem about facing your demons and letting go of toxic cycles. It sets the tone for an introspective yet upbeat collection of songs that explore growth, heartache, and emotional vulnerability — all wrapped in distortion and synth shimmer.
Second song in the EP “All I Give” expresses the emotional journey of trying hard to make something work, only to face frustration and eventual resignation. Despite giving their best effort, the narrator realizes things haven’t gone as planned. In the end, they find acceptance, reflecting on their slow progress and the lessons learned, even if it didn’t lead to the desired outcome.
“Oversight” convey a message of perseverance and self-belief. It encourages pushing through doubts and challenges, reminding the listener that it may take time, but staying true to oneself will lead to growth. The song emphasizes resilience, urging not to give up, and trusting that things will eventually fall into place.
Another standout track is “Intentional”, featuring Australian singer-songwriter Molly Lane. This duet tells a story about longing, hesitation, and the desire for vulnerability — with Lane’s delicate vocals providing a compelling contrast to the band’s energetic instrumentation. The song centers around the idea of wanting your partner to take the leap first, instead of waiting for the perfect moment to be asked.
Throughout the EP, The State Of Mind showcases a maturity in songwriting and arrangement, using synth textures not as a novelty but as an essential element of their evolving sound. It’s a record that feels both familiar and forward-thinking, carving a space for the band in the new era of pop punk.
