When our friend Jep Peligro from the Philippines writes in with news we provide all the space he needs. There is something about us lifers who are getting up there in age and with family and work commitments that should be taking us away from all this stuff, but something keeps us here. Something keeps our ear to the ground and being aware of what’s going on in our scenes.
So those that are still involved…are certainly the diehards.
RESPECT.
Here are his updates regarding zines from around the world by Pinoy hardcore/punk peeps…zines are definitely at the heart of Jep and ourselves. Jep runs konspirazine, and we used to run something called Start From Scratch Zine:
In The Zone
Rann from Get Up & Go Records (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Believe Fanzine has uploaded the first issue of her new zine In The Zone in PDF format here. “In The Zone is a 16 page cut and paste zine about artists from different parts of the Philippines. How they found art and how they live through it.” The artists in this issue include Curse/Gift (Batangas), Vermonyo (Laguna), Roasted By Sunlight (Zambales), and Sleepwell (Manila).
Patay Na, Namemerwisyo Pa
Archie from No One Wins/No Peace In Silence has uploaded his new webzine Patay Na, Namemerwisyo Pa which roughly translates to “Already dead, yet still bothersome”). You can check that out here.
From the author himself:
“6 weeks into the pandemic / lockdown / martial law / end of mankind or whatever the fuck they call it now, I decided to virtually sit down with the coolest motherfuckers in the scene. This was based on an idea I had way back about interviewing people behind the zines / scenes instead of the typical way of featuring bands. I commend these people for putting up with me as I felt I was too dumb to come up with any substantial questions to ask them. ”
Archie also runs a web radio streaming page under the name Radyo Knttn which you can check out here.
