This is a VERY cool article that was sent to us by Japanese promoters, charity organization UNUS MUNDUS, who shared how they were able to bring Thai powerviolence band SPEECH ODD to Japan for their upcoming tour. It’s AMAZING that we, Unite Asia, had anything to do with it!
“During the corona pandemic, I (Dan) was relegated to sitting in front of the computer watching videos of punk and hardcore shows and finding new bands that I vowed to see once shows started again. UniteAsia and other sites such as Hate5six were my repositories of introductions to new bands.
In addition, during the corona pandemic, my friend Randy (guitarist of the Tokyo-based BeerCore band “Thirsty” and I formed a charity organization in Tokyo, called Unus Mundus https://www.unusmundusum.com/. Our objective is to work with artists (music, graphic arts, etc.), developing projects. The artist chooses a charity and at least half of the profits from the project would be donated to that charity.
Due to the profile and introduction by UniteAsia, I discovered the Bangkok-based PowerViolence band Speech Odd among many other bands not only in other countries around Asia, but also in Japan. Another friend of ours who puts on a more indie and rock directed festival every November in Tokyo asked to see some live videos of the HC bands I was currently listening to. Upon seeing a live video of Speech Odd, he demanded that I contact them and bring them over to Tokyo for the November 24, 2024 Edowave International Music Festival held in Shinjuku (www.edowave.com).
After a flurry of email exchanges, a trip to see Speech Odd at Rumah Api in Kuala Lumpur, and lot of finger crossing, Unus Mundus is pleased to announce Speech Odd’s first tour in Japan with Thirsty.
Without UniteAsia, we would probably not have initially heard of Speech Odd, and while someone else probably would have eventually learned of Speech Odd and brought them to Japan, I am honored, thrilled, geeked out like a 10-year-old going to Disneyland, etc., to be able to work with so many awesome people to make this happen.”
Dates are as follows:
Speech Odd Japan Tour November 2024
November 21 Osaka Shinsaibashi HOKAGE (with Thirsty, Face Clasher, Termination and Tone Deaf)
November 22 Nishi-Yokohama El Puente (with Thirsty, Mea Culpa and THPY)
November 24 Edowave 2024 Festival Shinjuku Loft (with Vaiwatt, Thirsty, and many more)
November 26 Nishi-Yokohama El Puente (with Skiplife, Leach, and 9991)
