Man…as we mentioned in the post about GRIMTOOTH, it’s always cool to search through our website’s search function to see when we first started writing about bands. One of our MOST abrasive bands that we’ve talked about is American via Nepal grindcore band CHEPANG…and it turns out we’ve been back this band since at least 2016 (a year after we started this website). Read that original post HERE:

Little did we know that 9 years later, CHEPANG would be picked up by the mighty RELAPSE RECORDS! The label had this to say to summarize this behemoth of a band:
“Hailing from Queens, New York, by way of Kathmandu, Nepal, CHEPANG has never been your by-the-numbers band. They dub their music “immigrindcore”: They use samples from Nepali pop songs. They sing in Nepali. They embrace their immigrant identities. CHEPANG meld these elements together into an album about self immolation as a means of self preservation. Jhyappa touches on these philosophies through a ferocious grindcore attack that sounds as violent as the means through which the band wish to achieve redemption.”
The band has just released the first taste of their new album, ‘Jhyappa’ and on a METAL INJECTION article, the members had the following to say:
“Guitarist Kshitiz Moktan added: “All of us have lived half of our lives here. We live here, we see everything, positive and negative, so we wanted to have some kind of New York.” On the streets and in the subways, the band always sees “many people of different colors and races with their own life and story to tell. These are dynamic cues in life and serve as a motivation and also pride to be a part of this big city where diversity is everything. A melting pot of cultures.”
Can’t wait to hear the full record when it drops in May! There’s something about the low tuning, the sludgy vibe of some of the riffs on this first track right before they go back into blast beating your face off, that hints at something new…can’t WAIT.
“Being Muslim wasn’t just a part of identity anymore—it became something to justify.” Forged in anger, solidarity and decades of shared experience, GRAIL GUARD announce the release of their...
