I love love love when band members of bands send me messages saying “Hey Riz, can you check out this OTHER band I’m in?” Without fail, this ALWAYS leads me to being introduced to yet another crazy talented band that writes music that takes my breath away.
My buddy Tani already plays in a killer Filipino band called Small Hands (we just mentioned their brand new split record earlier today) but he sent me this link to his OTHER band Lindenwood‘s latest music video for a brand new song called “Monument“. I wasn’t prepared for the beauty of this song and had my daughter sitting next to me talking about some crazy thing that all 3 years old talk about…and when the opening chords chimed in I had to ask her to stop talking for a second. When the vocals came in – that vulnerable, familiar raspy sound of post-punk bands Hot Water Music, Title Fight, The Caulfield Cult, Lindenwood completely OWNED me… When I listen to post-punk, post-hardcore bands where the singer sings with grit and a tad bit of aggression over beautifully constructed indie-rock…I can’t help but think that this is one of the best combinations on the planet. When Polar Bear Club did that it was what made me fall in love with the band in the first place, when they got rid of those raspy vocals I immediately lost my love for them. That’s how much this combo works for me…and I’m sure for many other hardcore kids out there traversing this planet. The beauty is the mellowness combined with aggression – it keeps it away from sounding commercial or anything close to mainstream radio-friendly rock music.
Lucky for all of you, Lindenwood has made their very first EP entitled There is Nothing available for free download so you can enjoy them at your own pace savouring their music like fine wine (ummmmm…like grape juice for the rest of us straight edge type? hahaha). You can grab their EP from the bandcamp link below. The EP is released on Tani’s own label Continent Records which you should definitely keep an eye out for.
Here are some important links that you just go ahead and press “like” on now:

Without further ado…get on the music below…can’t recommend these guys enough!
This is what the vocalist Jason had to say about this particular song Monument:
“On the way to work, I’ve noticed several monuments, statues, etc. that has deteriorated over time. Along with the eventual natural aging, the decay was caused by the neglect of people I suppose. Filled with garbage, vandalism, etc. I thought of how prestigious these things were when they were first brought up and now, people just pass by them forgetting what they really stood for.” -Jason

Very cool to see some fellow Asian extreme musicheads who live out here in the west (United Kingdom to be precise) also continuing to actually play music instead of...
