Blackened Post Punk – Rosemallows – Release Debut EP [Malaysia]

Malaysian Blackened Post-Punk duo Rosemallows just released their new EP, “Zenith”. Zenith is a post-punk record with synthpop and metal influences, filtered through shoegaze sensibilities.

Based in China, Terence (vocals, synths, bass) took the opportunity for a break during the COVID-19 pandemic and flew back to his hometown in Kuching, Malaysia. There, he teamed up with Andy Mazlan (guitars) who just moved to the city right before the pandemic. The duo take inspiration from a large range of influences from post punk to black metal to shoegaze.

Their first single “Airlock” was inspired from a quote often misattributed to cyberpunk writer William Gibson that goes “The future is already here. It’s just not evenly distributed yet”. The song is about how the rich often have a plan to save themselves from catastrophes like climate change or the COVID-19 pandemic and there is no guarantee that we will have access to them. Yet, our culture laude them like secular gods.
