Post-hardcore band ROUGHANDS. has just landed with their debut single, “Burning Circles”.
The freshly formed band, consisting of Mich Pacalioga on vocals and guitars, Fevy Maligro and Miguel Lim on guitars, Kristin Dalaota on bass, and Tim Williams on drums, came about mostly by happenstance stemming from a passion project by Pacalioga.
“Back during the pandemic, Tim [Williams], Migs [Lim], and I exchanged demos, contemplating a band project but never quite getting around to it,” Pacalioga shares. “Fast forward to 2024, I felt the urge to write again and reconnected with Tim.”
Dalaota, also of Flowr and Ashtrays to Gaza, was the first to be brought on board into the project as bassist. “Initially, we formed a trio without any plans for live performances.”
After an initial jam session of what would become “Burning Circles”, the band realized they needed more guitar and brought in Maligro, from the band Sephtis, upon Dalaota’s recommendation. Lim was the final piece to the puzzle, as Pacalioga shared the initial demos with him for an opinion and the idea for a third guitar simply clicked.
Unabashedly a fan of heavy music, Pacalioga, whose riffs gave his band Loop their signature slow and loud dynamics, is the primary songwriter behind “Burning Circles”.
“This is about witnessing someone struggling with a personal battle while reflecting on a time when you faced similar challenges,” he describes as the theme behind the band’s debut.
Roughands. serves as a new outlet for creativity for the members of the band who are all currently active with other projects. Pacalioga is currently involved in The Rising Tide, KANA, and other projects. Williams plays drums for Kubra Commander and Mampor & Me, while Lim is the lead songwriter and vocalist for alternative rock band monopolice.
“Burning Circles” was recorded at Pacalioga’s home studio and Williams’ Capital Dreams Studio and likewise coproduced by the duo. The release also comes with a music video, which was self-produced by the band with the help of Neo Vignette Digizine on videography. As to what’s next for this fresh new band, “writing more songs and putting out an album” is on top of the list.
