Traditional Folk / Rock Act YUNSHANG Release Debut Song [China]

YUNSHANG, named after a line from a poem by Li Bai, employs clouds as attire and consists of lead vocalist Yi Ling, pipa player Yang Yang, and bassist Xiao Mei. Their music, characterized by metal riffs and the traditional pipa instrument, creates a genre they call “national tide rock.” The band’s content often revolves around the female perspective, celebrating love’s endurance and the courage of heroines. Their sound ranges from emotional to powerful, immersing listeners in their storytelling. Visually, they emphasize Chinese cheongsam attire to highlight feminine beauty. Yi Ling’s versatile vocals, Yang Yang’s masterful pipa skills, and Xiao Mei’s lively bass playing contribute to the band’s unique sound and presence.

In regards to the song, “Mulan is a legendary heroine from China’s Northern and Southern dynasties (4th to 6th century CE). She is known for taking her father’s place in the army by disguising herself as a man. After a notable military career, she declines high office and reveals her true identity to her comrades, surprising them. Although likely fictional, Mulan’s story symbolizes courage and dedication. A depiction of her can be found in Jin Guliang’s “Table of Peerless Heroes.”
