The lead up to this moment has been pretty damn vicious on the part of, we think it’s safe to say, the worldwide phenomenon that is nu-metal/folk metal band Bloodywood out of India. The band began in 2016 as a parody metal band who had MASSIVE success covering popular Bollywood songs and metalizing the fuck out of those tracks. With such success as a “parody” band, it was interesting to watch the band navigate a path that would eventually lead them to being a fully legit band that creates their own music. And goddamn, once they started dropping their originals, the world not only took notice but fell in love with the band.
Today the band has finally released their highly awaited debut album ‘Rakshak’ (streaming further below) that comes complete with their nu-metal/progressive metalcore groove, rapping (their Linkin Park roots are clear as day), traditional Indian instruments, epic throat-shredding vocals (our favorite of the two vocals – imagine a full track with just him on vocals) who goes between Hindi and English, and those amazing traditional Indian vocal/musical scales on peppered throughout each track. But it’s the way the band is able to address pretty frickin dire issues in their socio-political lyrical content that of course we, as a bunch of hardcore kids, really appreciate in the band. Take the brand new track ‘Dana Dan’ below which opens with a line addressing rape. For a band to be this massive and to OPEN a brand new single fully addressing this issue head on is FIRE.
