Death metal band Flint Knife Murder has released a follow up their sophomore EP ‘Aadi Rakhsas’. The new track is called ‘Lukai’ and the band had this to say about the track:
“After our second EP it was quite clear that the way forward for us meant getting brutal and obscure folk literature to our target audience via Death Metal.
The story of Likai came from close to home – Shillong and having delved deep into Khasi folklore in search of forgotten tales from the misty forests of Meghalaya, the tale of the death of a young daughter needed to be personified…
There was no point dwelling in the same old Satanic themes and run-of-the-mill song structures of the big and influential bands (and their copies). We needed something new both in terms of lyrics and songwriting. Besides our small (but slowly growing) listener base seems to enjoy the introduction of the folk elements both in the stories as well as in the music as well.
With Likai we have a fair bit of surprises with the return of the use of some traditional Indian instruments and rhythms infused with raw guitar riffage and blast beats.”
‘Likai’ is the story of a malevolent soul whose ego fuelled the gruesome death of an innocent child. The Khasi folklore of ‘Ka Likai’ tells the story of a woman named Likai whose life seemed forever cursed. The band is extremely grateful to Tiara T Kharpuri who is deeply attached and well versed with her Khasi culture, for explaining the story and significance so well at every step of the way in this project. She is featured in the beginning of the song.
