Started in 2009, Hong Kong Rocks website has been documenting Hong Kong’s underground independent music community specifically at venues like The Wanch and most recently at The Aftermath. Recently they’ve announced a cool Photo Exhibition to take place on June 24 at The Wanch.
“After 11’000 photos and 900+ videos published online, Hong Kong Rocks will have it’s first non-virtual photo exhibition in the coming days at Hong Kong’s iconc live music venue, “The Wanch”. Along with the famous annual week-long “Hallelujah” Music festival, the walls of The Wanch will feature some of the most iconic photos from 10 years of live music photography across the Hong Kong scene.”

When asked about the catalyst for beginning this initiative 11 years ago:
“Since most bands have to make do with cellphones to record their events – which are just as inadequate to record the images as the sound – the drive to find subjects for the camera and the need for better music documentation found it’s perfect match.
So since 2009 more than 11’000 photos and 900 videos were taken in more than 25 venues and over time created a small compendium of the small but vibrant and ever-changing live music landscape.”
Hong Kong Rocks video documentation can all be found on their YouTube channel here.
