When not busy making abrasive chest-pumping music with Catpuke, frontwoman Jamie Ogalesco dabbles in other genres like alternative rock and pop-punk and sometimes, retires to even quieter spaces now visible with alienfrend‘s debut single “polite ghosting”. The track which chronicles the ambivalence of openly accepting a pseudo-relationship that is bound to end from the start is filled with the hope and uncertainty one juggles in such situations.
When asked as to what pushed them to do a solo project, alienfrend answered that they had been writing a lot of songs since 2018 that weren’t just fitting with her rotation of active bands. The songs being written at the time were more personal, introspective, and subdued. “I just wanted to make music that’s more intrapersonal in a way since with catpuke and all my other bands, the energy is always exerted outwards in relation to the music and the message of the lyrics– the music is loud and I’m yelling or thrashing around. Though with alienfrend, I was able to find a space where I could just be quiet and be in that little bubble of introspection and dissect my own thoughts and emotions.”

Staying true to the DIY spirit instilled in them by their bandmates, alienfrend signed with independent label Odd Vinyl Records who helped produced the track. Alienfrend confirms that there are a “ton of songs currently in the works” not just for alienfrend but for catpuke and her other projects as well. They assure that more music will be coming out later this year and that they are thankful for the people who are supportive of their endeavors.
“It’s just amazing to be able to make music regardless if there will be people listening to it or not and with that being said, I’m so grateful that there are people who are as enthusiastic about my music as I am.”
