Waking Up To Racist Attacks Against Asians in The West – Where Are The Bands?

That photo above is what I woke up to today. An old man’s shop in San Franciso was ransacked by a bunch of racist assholes who attacked his store because of backlash against the Coronavirus. This is just one of the MILLIONS of stories that we read every day of Asians being attacked because of the virus (not because they have the virus – but because they’re Asian). It doesn’t matter what background or ethnicity – Filipino, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Hong Kong, doesn’t matter – as long as you look Asian you’re getting attacked. The list of articles below just took us a few seconds to compile of issues all over the West.

It’s just interesting, fascinating, heartwrenching, and infuriating to see how much hatred and disgust people in the West seem to harbor for Asians, and when shit hits the fan, they unleash all this disgust and hatred. Like when life is fine, they TOLERATE Asians, because since life is fine we’ll let these people live next to me. That’s why that word “tolerate” is so fucking disgusting. People shouldn’t be TOLERATED, they should be celebrated and respected. Instead, Asians no matter where in the world they’ve grown up or lived their entire lives, are always just a bunch of visitors. “Where are you from?” Fuck you.

A friend living in the US just said: “I’m more scared of hate crime assaults than the virus.”

Another friend chimed in “My Chinese friend who’s studying in the UK got spat on.”

Another friend “I’m trying to say posi but three people on the bus told me to stay away cause I have the virus. I said fuck you.”

There’s so much to say about this topic as Asians ourselves watching fellow Asians get physically and emotionally hurt and threatened in the West. But the whole time there is one thing we’ve been thinking, where are our favorite bands from the West? What are they saying about this? Why haven’t they said a single thing about all these racist assholes? Why aren’t there any statements being released?

We as a website have been about supporting Asian bands only so we haven’t been keeping up with bands in the West so we don’t really care about their positions. But we know for A LOT of people out here, Western bands are the be all end all, and everything/anything from our part of the world, for them, pales in comparison. So where are your favorite bands? What are they saying to counter or squash this or to at least make it known that they stand against racism?
