Our buds in Brighton-based death metal band BLOOD GUTTER were kind enough to send us this complete write up of how the band formed and their insane EP that dropped this summer.
READ ON.
“Blood Gutter formed in 2020. After none of my friends wanted to be in the band, I started spamming Facebook groups in search of musicians. This took about 9 years until there was a working lineup.
We played our first show at the Cowley Club in Brighton, which was a matinee put on by Burning Water. We later got offered to put out a song through THE COMING STRIFE on their 2022 UKHC Compilation.
We were inactive for most of 2023 due to members travelling. Towards the end of the year, our then drummer James moved to Glasgow and Jordan (Ikhras, Democracy Manifest) stepped up to fill in for a few shows, officially joining this year.
In the summer of 2024 we put out our debut EP, Below No One, through The Coming Strife. I wrote these songs in the wake of losing a loved one and moving to Brighton in 2017. The songs are about surviving depression, finding a place in a community, betrayal and coping with loss.
Influence-wise, Blood Gutter is about 2 parts early Lamb of God, 2 parts Prowler, 1 part early Your Demise. I grew up listening to death metal, but at 16 I went to a hardcore show and promptly cut my hair. A year later I started going to Rucktion shows in London. Rucktion music is raw and honest in a unique way, which is something I’ve tried to carry into this band. Special mention to Splitknuckle as well, their music inspired me to start writing.
Blood Gutter is a BN1 band. We do everything we do out of love for our friends and community. Here are some other BN1 bands you should check out:
Bodybag, Imposter, Plastics, Exhume, No Relief, Dandelion, Tempers Fray, Infinite Wisdom, The Swamp, Rhema, Outlive, Heat”
