As a punk-hardcore website we are all about giving people the space to unleash some much built up rage. The following was sent to us by the fine people behind Prohibited Projects. What are you thoughts? Let us know in the comments section.
http://prohibitedprojects.blogspot.hk/
THIS IS NOT A DIRECT OR INDIRECT REFERENCE TO ANYBODY. THESE THOUGHTS REPRESENT ONLY THAT OF PROHIBITED PROJECTS AND NOT NECESSARILY THE LION CITY SCENE [Singapore].
THESE THOUGHTS ARE INDIVIDUAL OPINIONS, AND SHOULD NOT BE SEEN AS FACTS. PLEASE READ WITH AN OPEN AND CRITICAL MIND.
This is a densely populated scene with so many things happening week in, week out. But for fuck’s sake please speak to one another, and combine shows whenever possible. Stop giving yourself an elite status, because honestly none of us are truly underground in this day and age. So don’t fucking think too highly of yourselves.
If you are a touring band coming here kindly acknowledge and respect local ways of doing things. There is reason and purpose, nobody is here to show you who’s boss because there’s none. Don’t compare what you “need to do” to “your town”. If that’s the way you think, don’t go on tour, you insular minded pieces of shit. Respect those who you work with, their friends, the space, the crew, the opening bands and all those that come and support you. There’s no need for the “one love peace and unity” bullshit; fucked up attitudes demand fucked up responses.
Before coming here on tour, please ask yourselves why the fuck are you here? Are you a touch and go “performing artiste”? If so, please go fuck yourselves. Don’t be part of the underground scene. It’s more than music. There is community, camaraderie and friendship alongside your music. Playing shows is obviously why you’re here but if you don’t respect the locality and if everything is based on a monetary or technical stipend, then let us spell it out for you. You are a ROCKSTAR. Not a punk. Please don’t pretend to be underground when you are quasi-sub-pseudo mainstream filth.
Those who are putting on shows here; please have some balls, a spine and some integrity.
When faced with a band fee request, always negotiate, because the “scene economy” of Singapore is not meant to emulate some rich Western country. We just don’t have the spending power and huge audiences of our regional neighbours or our European / American counterparts. If you invite someone here, be prepared to pay what is necessary from fees, lodging and food.
If someone asks for you to put on a show here; remember you have the right to agree or tell them to fuck of. There’s no model answer but you can figure out what is feasible or not.
A good band with a huge crowd pull = by all means pay them.
A band with a poor crowd pull, but asks for too much money which you can’t afford = please tell them to look elsewhere, and if they are being assholes tell them to fuck of.
We are a dense police state metropolis, and recently crowned the most expensive city in the world. If anyone comes here, they should change their expectations to fit our reality not the other way round. Stop sucking cock just for status and recognition.
It’s ok to tell rude, disrespectful, entitled touring acts and their stupid managers to fuck of. We’ve done that. A few times. And will keep continuing to do that.
Regardless of where you’re from, please communicate. Support one another. Say thank you. Be honest. Don’t be idiots.
By the way, fuck you and your tech riders and demands. This is hardcore punk. Not some entertainment business.
