Iranian thall act REDVI plunges listeners into the abyss with its haunting new single, “Parasomnia” along with a captivating music video. Seamlessly blending dissonant riffs, chilling atmospheres, and evocative storytelling, Redvi crafts a sonic landscape of chaos and desolation that feels like the soundtrack to a waking nightmare.
Opening with an ominous quote from renowned sci-fi visionary Philip K. Dick, the track quickly descends into a vortex of thall-style dissonance and punishing grooves. Guitarist Koorosh “Cultist k” and bassist Haman “Cultist h” wield their instruments like weapons, carving out jagged riffs that reverberate with unease. The riffing style is obviously a nod not only to thall music but also djent and deathcore. Complementing this auditory assault are Bardiya “Cultist m” ’s dynamic vocals, alternating between ferocious growls and a haunting clean delivery that peaks with an emotionally charged chorus.
The lyrical content of “Parasomnia” paints a vivid yet harrowing picture of a world on the brink of collapse. The imagery is visceral: burning crows streaking across a poisoned sky, a monstrous entity looming in the distance, and a protagonist grappling with an overwhelming sense of dread. Themes of existential fear, toxic reality, and apocalyptic despair permeate the verses, leading to a climax that mirrors the chaos of a mind trapped within its own nightmarish constructs.
In the second verse, the descent into madness deepens, with mythological references weaving through an escalating maze of horrors. As the outro approaches, the song offers no reprieve—only the chilling realization of being ensnared in an inescapable cycle of manipulated reality and relentless despair.
With “Parasomnia,” Redvi proves its mastery in the thall subgenre, combining technical brilliance with emotional weight to deliver a track that resonates long after the final note fades. The single is a testament to the band’s ability to explore dark, uncharted territories, leaving listeners with both chills and admiration.
