Back in June, Malaysian power pop band Couple came out with the special #TOTPcovers project on Youtube to celebrate the vinyl release of their now classic 2006 debut album Top Of The Pop, roping in friends from across all genres in the Malaysian independent scene to each cover a song from the album, ranging from emotive punk band Social Circuit, to ska-punk band Plague of Happiness, to indie rock band Lust, and many more, releasing one video per day according to the album’s tracklist.
Finally caving in to their friends’ and fans’ demand throughout the years, as the Top Of The Pop CD now regularly fetches around RM300+ in the second hand market, the band will be reissuing a special edition of the album on CD, complete with 2 bonus tracks and a booklet with liner notes (from the likes of Duglas T Stewart of BMX Bandits, the late, great Kim Shattuck of The Muffs and many more) and tonnes of rare photos on the RSD Drops date on 24 October 2020, which can be pre-ordered now from Teenage Head Records here:

To celebrate that special edition CD reissue, the band is back with Vol. 2 of the covers project, simply titled #TOTPcoversV2, this time focusing on relatively newer bands in the Malaysian independent scene, which has so far included math rock band Mutesite, pop-punk band Hacktick, soul queen Leaism, psych-rock n rollers The Fatalis and many others.
Give the playlist a listen and discover the next generation of awesome Malaysian talents that might just be your new favorite band!
