Phenomenal Emo Band MILO DINOSAUR Return With Short Film ‘Tabah’ [Malaysia]

Critically-acclaimed Malaysian emo band MILO DINOSAUR has unveiled its debut short film for ‘Tabah’, a stirring and poignant, visual interpretation of one of their most emotionally charged tracks. The film explores the quiet struggles and unspoken sacrifices of ordinary people — told through the lens of a single mother and her only son.

Crafted in collaboration with the young and passionate filmmakers of Bangsa Kamera Produksi, ‘Tabah’ is more than a music video — it’s an introspective short film rooted in raw emotion, visual storytelling, and love for the unsung.

Set in a modern Malaysian city, Tabah follows Rohaya (played by Suraida Abu Hassan), a single mother well into her senior years, who sells kek batik to support her son Haziq (played by Nazmie Hisham). Despite her age, she continues to push herself to survive, even as her body and energy wane. Her persistence becomes a quiet source of tension, as Haziq, now a young adult, struggles with guilt and frustration — desperate to give his mother the rest she deserves.

Through moments of hardship, rejection, and misunderstanding, Tabah portrays a mother’s endurance and a son’s yearning to repay her love.

Directed by Aqmar Nurhakim and produced by BigKid, the short film was completed over three months — with a lean team of first year UiTM Puncak Perdana film students juggling studies, internships, and creative work.

“It started as an assignment, but when we heard it was a music video project, we immediately thought of Milo Dinosaur,” said Aqmar.

“Tabah gave us space to experiment — the long instrumental gave us freedom to tell a story. While Kasih is the more popular song, Tabah is powerful in its restraint.”

Producer BigKid added, “We were in traffic, burnt out. Then Tabah came on the car stereo. It was that moment — it clicked. Aqmar messaged Jimmy from Milo Dinosaur that same night. He said yes immediately.”

The band said: “We just told them to go wild with it and do what felt right — and they totally nailed it. We wanted more than a run-of-the-mill studio band music video, and the element of story-telling was integral to this project.

“Honestly, the crew went above and beyond. We’re so proud of how it turned out.”

Milo Dinosaur formed in 2017 and has since become a cult favourite in Malaysia’s emo scene. The band’s music — marked by angular guitars, odd time signatures, and aching vocals — draws comparisons to Lukestar, Sport, and The Get Up Kids.
