Pakistani Grindcore Band KAFIR-E-AZAM Relocate and Drop New EP [Pakistan/Germany]

Rising from the ashes of the old Pakistani metal/punk network, and re-emerging through common migration patterns, KAFIR-E-AZAM is a grindcore band that was active briefly in 2013 and 2014 before starting again in Germany in 2024. They appeared on Tam89‘s ‘Pakistani Punk’ compilation in 2013 and released a split with Rawalpindi-based powerviolence act BVLGHVM in 2014. Now fate brings the original members back inside common artificial borders.

On their self-titled debut EP the returning grinders take no prisoners with noise that harkens back to the first wave of grindcore, without much heed to modern interpretations of that same sound. Lyrics tackle situations relevant to both Pakistan and Germany, as KEA now morphs into one of the many “diaspora” punk bands active in the imperial core of the West. Overall, the sound and style is perfect for those who’s favourite era of grindcore begins and ends with Repulsion, Agathocles, Blood, Fear of God and their ilk.

The duo behind KEA is involved in bands such as MALAMATI, ZANJEER, MYOSIS and MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS. They also together used to run The Iron Markhor, an old Pakistani metal/rock/punk zine between 2012 and 2014.
