OTUS [Japan] and THE GEEKS [Korea] Announced For Taiwanese Hardcore Fest – DIRTI FEST

Stoked for the Taiwanese hardcore scene! For 8 years now, Taiwan’s been running it’s own DIY as fuck/homegrown as fuck hardcore fest entitled DIRTI FEST. The fest is handled by Winston and crew who sings in Taiwan’s biggest melodic hardcore band DEFEAT THE GIANT.

This year, the 9th year of the fest, DIRTI FEST has announced that this year’s edition features Asian youth crew legends THE GEEKS and Japanese metallic hardcore badasses OTUS.

“My band DEFEAT THE GIANT took part in CNHC FEST (China Hardcore) back in 2018. The Geeks as well as Inside were also on the lineup and so we got to know both the bands really well and it has always been my dream to bring them down to Taiwan. Before Covid, I was also traveling up to Japan often and got to meet Otus’ bassist Takashi who also plays in Inside. Otus was SICK live. After that, we talked often about getting on shows together. Originally, they were both supposed to come down in 2020 but Covid showed up and fucked that all up. But the guys all stayed true to their original and we’re finally making it happen!”

Winston was kind enough to take a moment to reflect on 8 years of doing the fest. “In the 8 years that we’ve done this fest it’s been cool to see the audience size continue to grow. I feel pretty positive about the Taiwanese scene because there are more and more people wearing hardcore merch at shows and the mosh has all started to change too. 5 years ago I could never imagine the state that we’re in now.”

Let’s go.
