Channel News Asia has reported that the upcoming show for Watain has been canceled. According to the organizers Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA):
“Given the band’s history, IMDA imposed further stringent requirements including the removal of songs which are religiously offensive, that the band cannot make references to religion or use religious symbols and that no ritualistic acts are performed on stage,”
and then later added that Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs:
“MHA has expressed serious concerns about the concert, given the band’s history of denigrating religions and promoting violence, which has potential to cause enmity and disrupt Singapore’s social harmony.”
This of course is ridiculous on so many levels. But most importantly, this is ridiculous on the obscene level of hypocrisy shown by idiots who spew the values of religion as one of the main reasons they take issue with a band like Watain. What about the church and their corruption? What about all the pedophiles they harbor and protect who have been destroying lives of young children for decades? According to the person who began the petition trying to get the band banned, the band does “not (representing) the culture which we want in our youths”. What? But evil, corrupt, sickening humans donning robes and sodomizing young children is okay?
The next time a religious event is held in Singapore, the underground extreme music community should petition them on the basis that pedophiles should not be allowed to enter the country nor preach.
