Chugs On Deck is an Easycore band from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah that was formed on January 2014 with members, Eyon(vocals), Calvin (guitarist), Jordan (guitarist), Bobby (bassist), Hakim (synth/keys) and Rafi (drums). They are currently working on new music that will be released later on in the year but you can check out their EP, Superhero in Love on BandCamp and Soundcloud. The band’s debut EP features 6 tracks including Intro,Dance! Friend, Where is Mr. Nice?, Interlude, Superhero in Love and It’s Worth The Shot. Since its release on March 2016, it has received positive reviews by both longtime and new easycore fans.

The band gained momentum shortly after the release of Superhero in Love and they have performed extensively all around Sabah and West Malaysia–some of their notable performance include Northern Music Festival 2016 2016 in Penang, NegaRAKU Tour Sabah 2016 and Johnny Comes Lately :Ke Mana Kita? Sabah Tour. The band also recorded a charity Christmas album with other local bands to raise funds for Jireh Home last year (2016).

“Kotak Cahaya” is all about being resilient and creative in the face of adversity. Sometimes the solutions to recurring problems are right there in front of us, but we fail to see it because we often try to come up with “out of the box” solutions,” explained Eyon. Jordan added, “There are times we forget to search for the root of the problem–our mental attitude and outlook on life,”

When asked why Ensera–a gallery showcasing a kaleidoscope of Dayak art that tells fascinating stories of Borneo through intricate weaving’s, colorful beads and expressive woodcarvings–chosen as the venue for their music video premier Jordan said, “There’s so much to learn from indigenous people–one of their ethos that resonates with us as a band is discovering our purpose as humans. We’re not making music just for the sake of making music, we also want to reach out to people’s hearts and inspire them to never give up on life and their aspirations, through our songwriting. We’ve met so many people on tour, each of them inspires us to better ourselves as human beings and as a band”.
