Hong Kong doesn’t have many musical “legends” that came roaring out of the underground and took the city by the balls and disrupted the status quo. Actually, very few. LMF (Lazymuthafucka) are a bunch of dudes that were able to do just that pretty much from the moment they stormed onto the scene in 1999. The band is an amalgamation of other underground Hong Kong bands who came together to create a fucking monster. This monster incorporated spoken Cantonese laced with political/social messages that was made even more powerful by their excellence use of slang and profanity – because some issues should not be sung in a sweet melody, but screamed and yelled at the top of your lungs.
正義聲音永遠為公義抗爭
The band actually disbanded a few years ago but have come back every few months to play a show here or there.
Today they’ve announced that to celebrate 20 years of turning Hong Kong upside down, they have put together a 2 day festival featuring Hong Kong bands. Unfortunately there really aren’t any heavy bands on the bill because that would’ve been SUPER sick to bring out some of our awesome loud more abrasive bands from the underground community where LMF hail from in the first place, to show the massive audience who turn out for LMF how angry, in-your-face and aggressive the Hong Kong underground continues to be.
Anyway…doesn’t matter who’s opening – LMF are an act that deserves the utmost respect and you all should be at these shows.
