As a website, we want to platform scenes from around the world outside of the usual USA communities. This past October something incredible took place in Turkey where, in honor of a brand new book about hardcore in the Arab/Asian worlds called ANTIPODE, a show took place that featured bands from the SWANA region. Bands such as TAQBIR, TA2REEBAN, RAGUM, SHAHFRAH, and our good friends ZANJEER outta Germany.

As mentioned above, Germany-based Urdu-language hardcore act Zanjeer have now released a fullset video from this show. Vocalist Hassan, had the following to say:

“On 10th October, we played the Antipode Festival in Istanbul alongside bands such as Taqbir, Ta2reeban, Ragum, Shafrah and others. More importantly, it was the craziest crowd ever. It was honestly the best experience of my life since doing this punk shit for 15 years, and felt like a massive family reunion. Hope to see more festivals like this. Cheers to Doga and her crew! Go buy the Antipode book!”

According to the book, “Antipode” is a zine/book series mapping underground punk and DIY culture from different regions and their diasporas. This first issue dives into North Africa, Southwest Asia and beyond, while each volume hints at the next stop along the way. The project doesn’t just stay on paper — it comes with a compilation tape made with A World Divided and a series of launch concerts/events that carry the “Antipode” into live spaces.”

You can grab the book HERE.
