From London To Bangkok – Asians in HC On Top – KING STREET and WHISPERS Release Out Now

This is a sick Friday for Asians involved in the global hardcore scene. From the streets of Bangkok to the streets of London, two bands featuring Asians in their lineup have dropped releases today.

First up, the long-awaited release by Thai metallic hardcore madmen WHISPERS is out now. This is their first release on FLATSPOT RECORDS and being on that label has given the band a MASSIVE bump on the radar of people outside of the world of hardcore. The band was featured in REVOLVER and STEREOGUM and continues to be taking the world by storm.

This is what Revolver had to say:

“Few lyrical themes are as belovedly well-trod in hardcore as calling out frauds in the scene and making them pay.

Self-described “Bangkok evilcore” outfit Whispers know this well, which is why their new “Wisenheimer (You Were Never One of Us)” almost immediately finds vocalist Nitisart “Mike” Chaiburi barking that the band “don’t give a fuck about you and your fake-ass crew.”

Adding to the “worldwide unrest” Whispers promises on the cut, we’ve got a guest vocal in here from Shaun Alexander of Scottish band Demonstration of Power. But Whispers pack plenty of punch on their own, whether they’re hard-knuckling into detuned and toughed-up riffs or sidewalk-cracking moshes.”

Next up, the UK hardcore scene is an overwhelmingly large community of insanely incredible bands. It feels like literally every corner of this country has somewhat of scene with bands who are so good that it just forces an entire country’s scene to raise the level of their own bands.

My band KING STREET is one of the few bands here in the UK that features more Asians in the lineup than white people, and the white dudes in the band are the biggest and best allies. It’s just sick to be able to get on stage and give fellow POC’s in the venue, scene, city, country a little bit of representation in a type of music/culture they may feel an affinity to.

We’ve just dropped our debut album ‘War Scrolls’ and are STOKED to get it out to all of you. We’re playing our record release show in London on January 10th so roll out!

And if that’s not enough, gigantic Vietnamese pop punk band 7UPPERCUTS have also released a brand new album that will only continue to catapult them into the stratosphere of Vietnamese musical history.
