Two bands from Semarang, Indonesia, AK//47 and Tiderays are heading on a Southeast Asia tour from July 20 – July 30. This tour follows the launch of Tiderays debut album “401” released by Samstrong Records in early July 2019.
The trip will take place in five countries: Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Singapore with 10 performances in total. “In addition to broadening our audience, this tour is intended to be a starting point for opening a network of access for musicians from a variety of Southeast Asian countries to be able to meet and tour together,” said DF Ahmad, guitarist at Tiderays.
The idea of involving AK//47 came after the grindcore veteran’s third album, “Loncati Pagar Berduri” (“Jump the Barbed Wire”), released by Lawless Jakarta Records and Disaster Records, and following their 45-show US tour in 2018.
“This year is the 20th anniversary of the formation of AK//47. We want not only to celebrate these last 20 years as a band, but also to grow our music collective and continue to engage with the larger music scene in SE Asia. We hope that our tour route will be one that other bands can follow in the future,” said Garna Raditya, AK//47 vocalist and guitarist along with Novelino Adam
(vocal, bass) and Yogi Ario (drum).
Meanwhile, Tiderays is a newcomer on the music scene, fronted by DF Ahmad (guitar), Ghozy El-Yussa (vocals), Fauby Duvadilan (bass) and Gresia (drums). They began touring in Java and Bali in 2018 with the hardcore band Hearted (Semarang).
“From the previous tour we learned a lot about managing a DIY tour independently and reaching out beyond our comfort zone. Touring outside of Indonesia now, we hope to collaborate with musicians internationally, perhaps on split albums or compilations, and continue expanding the underground music scene in Southeast Asia,” concluded DF Ahmad.
