Cebu hardcore band TURNPIKE has just dropped a brand new track, a brutal piece called “Peeling My Scars”, which is now available on major digital music platforms. “Peeling My Scars” is a part of the band’s new full length album Straight to the Domes of your Heads which will drop on November 22.
According to lyricist and vocalist Bryle Tomilap, “Peeling My Scars” is a reflection “on the pleasures of pain”. He narrates, “sometimes we might not notice but each of us are choosing the burdens we carry on our shoulders.”
“Although our personal scars are in the process of healing, the choice to succumb to hate, reprisal, or vengeance will prevent one’s mental healing,” he adds. “This gives way to a vicious cycle, and the more a person languishes in this cycle, the more satisfying the pain becomes. Slowly, pain becomes a longing.”
“Peeling My Scars” continues the trend of darker themes and heavier tones for Turnpike, which came to light with their single “Angels Weep” in 2023. The track was a sudden shift to a new sound following their more melodic debut EP You Vs. Everyone You Love released just a few months earlier. This new lyrical and musical direction, along with their first Manila tour earlier this year, has earned the band a strong following in both the local and national hardcore circuit and culminates in the album Straight to the Domes of Your Heads.
Straight to the Domes of Your Heads is the band’s second collection following You Vs. Everyone You Love and their first full-length effort. The new collection features nine tracks including the band’s previously released singles “Angels Weep”, “Fatal Cleansing”, “Breaking Your Peace”, and “Blood4Blood”. An additional four tracks round up the set, promising more new breakneck music for Turnpike’s growing community of fans.
