Big Day – Post Punk Band BLOOD PACT Return With Gorgeous New Single [Singapore]

One of our favorite post-punk acts from Asia, Singapore’s BLOOD PACT, are finally back with new material. It’s been 5 long ass years, and we’ve listened to their phenomenal debut self-titled EP to DEATH in that time.

And if you want to hear what this magic sounds and feels like live…

But we’re here to talk about the band’s surprise drop with their new single ‘Flowers On My Grave’ that the band states is the first taste of an entire album of new music. That full album, ‘Angel Fire’, will be out on October 6th.

The band was formed by Nick Wong of Marijannah, Blush, The Caulfield Cult fame, Keith Chua and Mohd Farhan of Doldrey fame back in 2019. Blood Impact died down after the COVID-19 pandemic, with lockdown destroying all momentum as the members moved on with their lives, entering their dreaded 30s, with each year passing making it harder and harder to reignite the project. Nick and Farhan were kept occupied with Blush and Doldrey respectively, both releasing records and touring internationally during Blood Pact’s inactivity.

‘Angel Fire’ is the brainchild of Nick Wong, born from a state of existentialism and growing disillusion with adult life. In a spontaneous burst of creative binge, 8 songs were written and recorded in Nick’s home and produced and mixed by Jared Lim (Sobs, Subsonic Eye) in 2 months. The album’s lyrical themes tackle aging, wasted potential, living in isolation, alcoholism
and self-reflection. With Farhan stepping down from the band due to a hectic schedule with touring, Nick and Keith will be joined by a rotating lineup for their upcoming live shows consisting of Niki Koh (Forests), “Skinny” Nicholas Ng (Marijannah, The Caulfield Cult), JY (Microchip Terror) and Reza (Intermission).

But let’s focus on the song itself…the 80s synth pop masterpiece playing below. The chorus “I don’t mind no flowers on my grave, I won’t be there to see them anyway” will haunt you for days. The lo-fi production of this, as Nick mentions above it was all recorded in his home, adds so much to the melancholy captured on this beautiful song.

This is what music should feel like – one listen provides a barrage of emotions. So much so, you have to replay the song repeatedly.

Can’t wait for October 6th.
