Legendary band MDC/Millions Of Dead Cops and The Elected Officials are embarking on their “Escape from America Tour” encompassing China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Japan.
David Dictor the founder and frontman of the historic punk band MDC leads his crew with original drummer Al Schvitz, Bassist Mike Smith and legendary journeyman guitarist Bill Collins. They are blazing their political hardcore punk band on their first tour of Asia with returning political band The Elected Officials. Also joining the tour for a handful of shows, The Restarts (UK) will also be hitting the stage with everyone in Indonesia, Singapore & Malaysia.
The Elected Officials are a Political punk band from Austin, TX and Santa Fe New Mexico. They deliver ripping hardcore punk with lyrics about corporate politics, religious pundits, rampant consumerism, toxic products, political prisoners and globalization. Tied to the Thai punk culture, vocalist Sophie Rousmaniere owned an iconic punk bar in Chiang Mai, Thailand called Chaos City from 2000 – 2005 helping spawn the vibrant punk scene Thailand has today.
MDC finds itself in the news this year as lyrics from their song Born To Die, “No War No KKK, No Fascist USA” have been used by demonstrators in reaction to Donald Trump’s election campaign and nomination for US presidency. Old friends Green Day sang these lyrics at the American Music Awards and have been crediting Dave Dictor and MDC this past week. MDC has always had their thumb on the political pulse concerning punk and political events of the day, going back to Rock Against Reagan and promoting Food Not Bombs and the campaign to feed the hungry in this country. Dictor is well known for penning ‘John Wayne Was A Nazi’ which was recently sold to Grand Theft Auto, who in turn sold 40 million copies with that song featured in the well-known video game.
