Dealing with death has never been an easy task. Some move on easily and some grieve a little longer. With Malaysian rock band, AN HONEST MISTAKE’s latest release, the band hopes that, “there won’t be another you” will help the listener say the things they couldn’t verbalise and perhaps help them heal.
Inspired by the death of Darren’s (lead singer) dog of 14 years who passed on in February this year. Nobody likes dealing with death or knows how to deal with it until it happens. No amount of preparation will prepare you to face it. “This is probably the most difficult song to write; to be able to pen the feelings down. I guess this was my form of grieving and it turned out pretty good”, says Darren.
This song deals with the emotions of wanting to spend the final moments with someone you love; the feelings that come with it, the questions, the regret, the remorse; all in all an overwhelming song that encapsulates the emotions during a tough period.
The single also features R&B singer, Khodi, who lent her vocals on the song to give it a little twist and flavour.
The band hopes that this will help many find the words to express what they truly feel in dealing with the loss of a loved one whether it’s family, a friend or even a pet. The band believes this will be an anthem that will help ease the pain and at the same time give strength to the ones who need it.
On another note, the band also welcomes, new drummer, Eugene Gerard to the family who is also part of post-rock band, The Metaphor with Tomas Tam (AHM’s lead guitarist). After long-serving drummer Ian Ng, made his departure from the band in early 2023, it felt like it was the most natural choice to have Eugene jump in.
