CAN’T KEEP UP is a hardcore band from Atlanta, GA, USA founded by Vietnamese-American brothers in 2022. Since then, the band has played shows as local support/openers for Spaced, Prevention, Anklebiter, Mourning, and Magnitude.
The new song “Peril” is about the violence and racist attacks towards Asian Americans during the Pandemic because we were blamed for COVID-19 in the United States. Hate crimes towards Asian Americans were at an all-time high. I saw videos of Asians getting threatened, pushed down, beaten up, and worse in broad daylight and public spaces. It was hard not to look at those videos and not think “That could be my family or my friends.” We were afraid whenever our parents had to leave the house. This song was written in 2022 out of anger and frustration towards the situation. It features guest vocals from City Violence (Atlanta Powerviolence) singer Brian Ra, who is Korean-American. It is a song for other Asian Americans who felt the same way we did and, at the same time, is a song that represents my voice as an Asian American in hardcore.
-Tommy, Singer
“Peril” will be featured on the new EP, “Maybe There’s Solace”, which will be available on April 5th. The unofficial EP release set will be at House of Disorder Day 1 in Atlanta, GA, USA on April 20th with Identity Shock (Atlanta), Arkestra (Atlanta), Mil-Spec (Toronto), Illusion (New York), and Deflect (South Florida).
