When the world is all about including as many beatdown parts to your hardcore, it is always a breath of fresh air when you hear a new band drop a debut single/EP, etc. that doesn’t try to out-heavy each other. Check out the newly formed Japanese emotional hardcore band WEEP on their debut EP ‘The Attack Before the First Light’. If you’re a fan of bands like Endzweck, Naiad, early Envy, FC Five…this is your jam.
Drummer, Masao, from the band was kind enough to send us more info:
“We are a brand new band. We’ve played in other bands before for many many years, but they were all just local bands, pretty much unknown outside of our little scenes. I’d have to say that the musical direction of WEEP is also not something I have a lot of experience with it. This was really challenging for my style of drumming, and so I had to find a different approach to learning how to play this stuff.”
Of course, we had to ask about the sound. “Our sound is influenced by melodic hardcore bands like Nine Eleven, Comeback Kid, and even Down to Nothing. Lyrically we use Japanese, we really want to sing in Japanese.”
Here’s a track by track breakdown:
Attitude
This is the first song we worked on but all three songs have a different flavor.
Forward and Backward
This is the fastest song we have which has a 2 step mosh part as well.
Hold Hands Forever
This song has several different meanings and feelings. Anyway, it’s super emotional that ends with a massive singalong.
The band has stated the EP will be out on CD format this June. Hit ’em up: https://twitter.com/WEEP2022
